NAME: Holly aka Jack River
WHAT DO U DO: Writer, Producer, Director of The Hopeless Utopian, Student.
FAVOURITE BAND: Neil Young , never fails to bring me back to Earth. FAVOURITE SONG: short term: Dog Years – Maggie Rogers , forever song: Heart of Gold - Neil Young
FAVOURITE FEMALE ARTIST + WHY: Lorde – Lorde is a woman so deeply connected and committed to her vision for her art and the universe. She is fearless and honest and unapologetic in her passion for the world. I often feel too into life, she makes me feel normal and excited about the future. She is also a badass in business, and has always kept the press and industry in line in a very public and appropriately stark way. Love her.

WHAT DO YOU DO?
"I dream things up and try to execute them in the real world. Right now it’s an album and two festivals. In the future it might be something else, but basically I love curating thoughts or concepts and turning them into something physical."

3 OF YOUR HARDEST MOMENTS?
1." Losing my Sister when I was 14: Like a comet in a sci fi movie hitting a perfect world, losing my best friend at the age of 14, was heartbreakingly horrifying. When you lose a sibling, you lose your parents for a good couple of years too, they disappear and they cannot be there for you. Though in losing my Sister, I found her & my love for her in the world, in the sea, in music, in words, in doing things I love, even if they are against all normality."
2. "To make things more complicated, my family and I went through an 8 year long court case. It prolonged our ability to grieve with grace and love, but at the same time it made me visualise my dreams so much so that I knew exactly what I wanted to do with my life the minute I made it through the darkness."
3. "The everyday hustle of pursuing said dreams. I feel like embedded in each day is a little moment of ultimate challenge - it doesn't matter how big or small, every challenge seems like it holds a lesson, and can be a reflection of your attitude to it all. This is damn hard or damn easy, it changes everyday."

DO YOU HAVE ANY LITTLE SECRETS TO FOLLOWING YOU PASSION?
"Trusting yourself and backing yourself despite what the world thinks, over and over again. If you have a life in your head that nobody else has lived before, this self-belief discipline is so damn important. There’s a great Bob Dylan quote I found when I was 17, that I refer back to a lot… 'DESTINY is a feeling you have that you know something about yourself nobody else does. The picture you have in your own mind of what you're about WILL COME TRUE. It's a kind of a thing you kind of have to keep to your own self, because it's a fragile feeling, and you put it out there, then someone will kill it. It's best to keep that all inside.'"

DO YOU HAVE RITUALS? WOULD YOU SHARE ONE WITH US?
"Yesss I definitely have rituals. The first one would have to be swimming in the ocean everyday (or thereabouts). Growing up so close to the water, it has always provided a place of ultimate refuge, it was there for me just as much as a parent, or sibling or dog. Whatever the problem, diving underneath cold water can seriously always fix it. Hanging with my little brother always has this grounding effect too. Hanging with our dog on the lawn or watching Step Brothers are two pretty incredible rituals I definitely rely on. On a spiritual level, visualising/ manifesting each full moon/ each month/ each year. I try to step back a lot and look at wtf I am doing and exactly what I want to do next. The full moon thang always feels special and reminds me of the witches of yesteryear. Whilst looking forward, I also make a surrender/ let go column & write out all the things I cannot change that are annoying me. This is surprisingly powerful."

WHAT MAKES A WOMAN ELECTRIC?
"I think what makes a woman electric is her connection to her heart. Sometimes I go down spirals of wonder - wondering if I am too strong or harsh, and wondering if I need to be softer, then sometimes I feel so fragile and think I should be stronger. Buttt - my Mum (the kindest woman in the universe) - always reminds me that if you follow your heart, you are being true, and it is the most powerful thing you can do. Women and men who are following their heart and fulfilling it exude limitless electricity! She reminds me this so, so often as I navigate new territory and have to learn this reconnection again and again."

FORKS IN THE ROAD, HOW DO YOU MANAGE THEM?
"Hmm, I think the best way is to make time to stop, even if you have to keep working, teach your mind to stop searching forward for a little bit, and the answer will come. Stillness never fails, going inside and whistling your inner horses home, making a cup of tea, waiting until the answer comes, and if it doesn't, just make a decision and run with it as best you can. Fate and timing will soon step in to let you know how you are going… But you have to be listening!"
