WHAT DO YOU DO?
"I paint special pieces of artwork from my heart (my Yukul). I paint commission pieces as well as my own prints. I run Yukul Art solo, painting, packaging, running my online store all from my little home studio in Worimi Country, Forster. I am also a Mumma to 2 beautiful babes who I could not live without. They are my inspiration."
3 OF YOUR HARDEST MOMENTS?
1. "Losing my Mum. I would never go a day without seeing her or talking to her on the phone. Saying goodbye to her was the hardest day of my life."
2. "Taking the chance and building Yukul Art. People expect so many things from us in this life. I had the choice to continue study or create a dream life for myself. I was scared of failing and almost didn't take the leap. Then I decided what can I lose and Yukul Art was born. I haven't looked back since, 2 years on."
3. "My pregnancy with my second child- Jarley. I found out I was pregnant with him 2 weeks after my Mum's funeral. I spent the whole pregnancy grieving over her and thinking how crazy it was that I lost her but at the same time I was creating new life inside me. It was a bittersweet feeling and one that took me a while to understand. He has definitely got a part of her soul inside his little heart."
WHERE DO YOU WANT TO GO NEXT?
"I have so many goals both short term and long term. I want to gain more recognition not only in Australia but on an international scale as well. My dream is to build Yukul Art into a fully successful business that is going to thrive well into the future. I would love to have my own studio away from my home in my local town with a mini gallery and shop. It would be cool to be in the position to create a space where people can come view my work, hang, have a coffee and a chat and be inspired by what I do. It's definitely on the list for the future."
DO YOU HAVE A GIRL GANG? WHY DO YOU LOVE THEM?
"My girls. They are my rocks. I have a few different girl gangs. I have my besties from school who I don't get to see all that often. I love them so much and we have that special connection that when we meet up we just pick right back up from where we left off and it feels like just yesterday that we were hanging out. I also have my girls that I see regularly who are my go to for support, a laugh when it is needed, a shoulder and a good chat about mum life and the daily struggles. I love them because they never judge, they listen and support, offer a hug and a cup of tea or wine. That's all you need sometimes."
WHAT MAKES YOU WANT TO GIVE UP? HOW DO YOU BOUNCE BACK?
"Some days the struggle is very real. Sometimes I think life might be easier if I just give up my business and go and work for someone else. Being a fulltime Mum and running your own business can get a bit hectic and crazy at times. The days when I am running on 2 hours sleep, the washing is piling up and I am getting emails pouring in and unanswered for days can really take its toll on your mental and physical health. I have learnt to deal with these situations by a lot of trial and error. I simply just log off technology for a few days and spend some quality time with my family outdoors. It is amazing what nature, the ocean, salt water and fun with the kids can do for your soul. It works every time and I go back into my studio and kick start where I left off knowing that this is what I want to do, this is my dream and I want to live it."
