NAME

Angie McMahon

WHAT DO YOU DO?

Singer/Songwriter

FAVOURITE BAND?

Big Thief

FAVOURITE SONG?

Tea, Milk & Honey - Oh Pep!

FAVOURITE FEMALE ARTIST AND WHY?

Angel Olsen...I always realise new things while listening to her music.

IS THIS WHAT YOU'VE ALWAYS DREAMED OF?

Yes. It's much more real and scary than I dreamed it would be, it's hard. But I get to learn life lessons while making music, and that's wonderful.

WHERE DO YOU WANT TO GO NEXT?

So many places...I want to go to different countries and play in lots of new spaces, sharing songs with people, and I also want to go to a quiet house in the middle of nowhere and make more songs on my own.

DESCRIBE YOUR WORK ETHIC

I often feel like I've gotta go fishing for my work ethic. Like there's a big body of water - expectations, anxieties, distractions, my imagination, sleepiness, etc - and I'm looking at it all the time. And then some days I can throw the line in, find my work ethic fish, and ignore whatever is in the water while I just get some stuff done.

DO YOU HAVE RITUALS? WOULD YOU SHARE ONE WITH US?

My favourite ritual is sitting on my own for a while when I'm stressed, it always helps me recharge. Some mornings I sit on my front porch for a long time, while the sun is shining on it. Before gigs there's usually lots of people around, so I sit in a bathroom cubicle by myself until I feel steady.

WHAT WOULD BE YOUR ADVICE TO YOUR YOUNGER SELF/THE BEST ADVICE YOU'VE BEEN GIVEN?

Think gently and work harder.
