NAME

Bri Clark

WHAT DO YOU DO?

I'm a singer/songwriter

FAVOURITE BAND?

The Staves

FAVOURITE SONG?

Imogen Heap - You Know Where to Find Me

FAVOURITE FEMALE ARTIST AND WHY?

Ainslie Wills because she writes incredible lyrics and melody. I saw her play live in Perth a few months ago and I had this urge to cry but I was so happy at the same time: all of the emotions and lots of goosebumps.

WHERE DO YOU WANT TO GO NEXT?

I have just released a single(!!), so I'd love to get over to the east coast in a month or two and do some writing and gigs, and support some artists that I look up to. I've also got a second single to release early next year and then the EP as well. It's going to be a busy 6 months but I'm very excited about it.

DESCRIBE YOUR WORK ETHIC.

I write quite often but not for extended periods of time unless it's flowing. I think it's important not to push yourself too hard if things aren't working, and to always come back to it if you feel there's the potential there but you just can't find it at that point in time. I try and work efficiently. I work hard, but not so hard that I get burnt out. That's been one of my biggest developments as I've gotten older, finding balance.

DO YOU HAVE RITUALS? WOULD YOU SHARE ONE WITH US?

Yes, when I finish recording a song, or producing a track, I bounce it and go for a walk outside and take it out of the studio, out of my monitors and headphones so I can think about the mix and what it needs and how it feels in a difference space.

WHAT WOULD BE YOUR ADVICE TO YOUR YOUNGER SELF?

Advice to my younger self: don't eat food or drink cider/beer before a gig. Singing while trying to burp at the most opportune time - very tricky.

DO YOU HAVE ANY LITTLE SECRETS TO FOLLOWING YOUR PASSION?

Create lots, and make really terrible things so you can get to the incredible things, and make sure that first and foremost you are releasing things that you are really proud of. Every time I try and write something like someone else it feels really disingenuous and unauthentic. So, do you, girl, and don't let anyone try to tell you that you have to be something that you're not.
